Day 1 in Hongkong
The first strike-off on my bucket list this year was my trip to Hongkong!
I've been to countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Australia, China, Taiwan so when I told my friends it was gonna be my virgin trip to Hongkong they gave me the 'you are fucking missing out' kinda look. I agree! Hongkong is such a fun place for travel, its always busy, there are people everywhere and it's always bright and vibrant.
When I first landed on Hongkong, I was welcomed by the scenic mountains and sea by the side of the runway, feels really different compared to Singapore. Oh ya, I forgot to mention we took the 6am flight from Singapore, which means I woke up at 3am to prepare and was in Singapore terminal since 4am. EPIC PANDA EYES. Shag until like dont know what.
We took the airport express train from airport to Kowloon to our hotel but we were unable to check in early so we decided to feed our starving tummy with the oh-so-famous Tim Ho Wan. This dimsum eatery is awarded 1 michelin star, And because alot of my friends are raving about how awesome it Tim Ho wan is,
our expectations are as high as Jesus.
BUT
It was quite disappointing.
First of all, when reach the place, there was a massive crowd outside the small little eatery. Our queue number was 75 and it was only serving number 26 then. We had to queue for a good 2 hours. So I was like thinking, goddaammm it must be bloody good yay! NOT
While waiting, we walked around the place and found the most awesome egg waffles. Not sure if its called egg waffles but oh well, it was damn good! Maybe because we were really hungry.
Gobbled it up almost immediately! And it was FRESH YAY!
All these streets reminds me of Hong Kong dramas. Like you know those where the gangsters will rock up at the poor vendors stalls demanding for money if not they will mess up the whole place? Fine.
So finally, the auntie called out our queue number!
We got a shared table and it was really narrow and cramp. It was quite an uncomfortable experience, definitely not the place where you can chill and catch up. You queue for 2 hours, you eat and you GO.
We ordered all the recommended dimsum but nothing was comparable to Dragon Palace in Northbridge, Perth. We ordered the chee cheong fan and it tasted okay. The skin is quite smooth and soft but I hate parsley so Dar ate most of it.
The turnip was really bad ):
Bland and tasteless even though it looks really good on the outside.
I really like the Har gao! The skin was really thin and smooth!
The prawns are fresh but I tasted better ones. Nonetheless, still a michelin standard Har gao (:
Didnt like the Siew mai at all. Maybe its a Hong kong thing, but it was really tasteless.
Glutinous rice was okay, but we were too full by the time and didnt get to fully enjoy it.
Nothing was up to expectations in Tim Ho Wan except one! Their crispy barbeque pork bun is the best barbeque pork bun i have ever tasted! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! The pork was cooked to perfection and it was a divine moment! I kept raving about how good it was! Because of that, I dont mind going back to Tim Ho wan, queue for another 2 hours just to have it again!
Heaven in my mouth! #foodgasm
However, still not really a 1 michelin star worthy dimsum cafe.
After Dimsum we shopped at Ladies market! There was nothing much there except the fact that everything was marked up really high to rip tourist off. The highlight of the day was when Dar got CHASED OUT/SHOO-ED OUT by the auntie in one of the stalls in ladies market. His cuff links cost 100hkd, the auntie discounted it t 70hkd, and Dar asked for 25hkd. Asking for it. Well, I played a part cause I was the one who suggested to bargain lower than 30hkd.
Super hilarious though, I laughed quite hard haha!

We stayed all 5 nights in Royal Plaza Hotel in Kowloon, Mongkok.
It was a very pleasant stay, the staffs were friendly and helpful and always greeting you with a smile. Interior of the hotel was amazing! Really love the bath tub and the King size bed as well as the open planner! (: We had a view of the city #likeaboss
Took a nap in the hotel and head out to Tsim Sha Shui at night!
The night life in Hongkong was amazing, everyone was out and it was crowded even on a weekday. Shopped around Harbour city thinking that it might be cheaper compared to Singapore, Not really.

End of Day 1! (:
